Hello and welcome to Feed me! Feed me! Feed me! I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself and why I started this blog. When I’m thinking about food, in a restaurant or planning to cook, I’m not simply looking for sustenance, I’m in pursuit of pleasure. Whether it’s getting a health high from hot smoked salmon aside chilli garlic kale and avocado or indulging in a juicy rump steak aside baked camembert with rocket salad, sliced buttered baguette and lashings of Malbec, for me, it’s all about getting the endorphins flowing and the flavours singing.
Admittedly this pursuit has become a bit more challenging over the last few years with the arrival of the little nippers but the move to Mexico has given me a new lease of life and I want to share it with you. Over the last 5 months, I’ve been adjusting to the local produce as well as slowly learning Spanish. I want to combine my love of traditional British fare with the colourful, eclectic and fiery cuisine of my new home.
When we eventually move into our new home, in the not too distant future, I will be planting a veg patch as well as tending to the already growing delights that the garden has to offer. Avocados, aubergines (or eggplants if you are so inclined), oranges, limes and even pistachios are already quietly soaking up the sun but are in much need of some TLC to bring them to harvest. Can’t wait to document that journey and share on here. Another venture is to get into smoking fish and with any luck build a smoke house in the garden. I am extremely passionate about smoked fish and the thought of smoking my own fills me with so much excitement I can’t describe. Really really can’t wait for that!
I’m also really into pickling. I’ll be sharing my refrigerator jalapeño dill pickles before too long when I make the next batch so, look out for that. I also love showing our toddler around the kitchen making scrambled eggs, pancakes and rice crispy cakes. She loves mixing and breaking eggs, and you know what they say “if you want to raise a toddler you’ve got to break a few eggs”. That’s what they say, right? Anyhow, I’m delighted that you’ve stopped by my blog and I’d love for you to comment on my posts and share anything you find interesting.
Fantastic. The man, the legend, the blogger! I hope that smoke house is up and smokin when I visit next year. Keep it pickled. Mark x
